The American Society of Nuclear Cardiology Leadership Development Program (LDP) was established in 2003 to prepare ASNC members for leadership positions the field of nuclear cardiology and ASNC.
The goal of the program is to provide opportunities for career growth; expand knowledge of the field; and promote ASNC's culture of volunteerism that will serve them in their careers, thus shaping the foundation of ASNC’s governance and leadership for the future.
ASNC LDP participants are paired with an ASNC mentor who will provide guidance throughout the program and in their early careers. Program participants have numerous opportunities to network with ASNC leaders and each other during the program and are invited to participate in a variety of special projects to enhance skills and visibility in the field.

How It Works
ASNC LDP participants are paired with an ASNC mentor who will provide guidance throughout the program. Participants receive numerous opportunities to network with ASNC leaders and each other during the program and are invited to join a variety of special projects to enhance their skills and visibility in the field.
The three-year program is founded on three pillars:
- Mentorship
- Society Governance and Special Projects
- Leadership Skills Development
Based on these pillars, participants have opportunities through professional development webinars and project invitations to learn skills such as:
- Manuscript submission/review, how to find research opportunities and didactic instruction fundamentals
- Speaking and presentation skills, needs assessment processes, formative assessment question writing, conflicts of interest policy, and the fundamentals of quality improvement
- Legislative advocacy, regulatory processes, training on meeting with members of Congress and their staff, and billing and coding issues
- How to manage clinical teams, engage in quality improvement within their institution or practice setting and use performance data to track patient outcomes
The mentorship aspect of the program is among its most influential and enduring. Periodic reviews are held to evaluate participation, assure the program is meeting participant needs, and offer an opportunity to suggest changes if necessary. The peer network opportunities offered through the program are evaluated on an ongoing basis to provide the best possible experience. Oversight of the program is managed by the Leadership Development Program Director, Dr. Saurabh Malhotra, an Administrative Committee, and a member of ASNC staff.
Program graduates have been instrumental in assisting ASNC to develop resources and tools for physicians in practice, including fundamentals of quality improvement, lab accreditation and assessment resources, and patient care information materials. Many have gone on to serve as Chair of a Committee or the ASNC Annual Meeting, Members of the Board of Directors, and ASNC President.
Application Requirements
- Candidate must be a member of ASNC, and
- Be within 5 years of completion of their last training program (Cardiology fellowship/ Radiology or Nuclear Medicine residency or Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging Fellowship).
Selection for participation in the program is extremely competitive. Slots are limited to ensure that each participant has broad exposure to all aspects of the Society and that participation is meaningful and of value to both the individual and ASNC.
All applicants must submit the following materials to info@asnc.org to be considered for selection:
- Completed Application Form (includes instructions for the following items)
- Letter of Recommendation from your program director, preceptor, or another mentor
- Current Curriculum Vitae or Resume
- Statement of Interest (maximum of 500 words)
Selection criteria include time committed to advanced training in nuclear cardiology or cardiac imaging, job responsibilities in nuclear cardiology/imaging, involvement in ASNC and other imaging societies and strength of the recommendation letters. The Selection Committee evaluates program applicants on their stated goals, experiences in research, their publications, educational contributions, participation in Society initiatives, and their likelihood of success in the program. ASNC’s Community is robust and assuring a good fit between LDP participants and the organization benefits both.
