The Journal of Nuclear Cardiology just published the inaugural JNC Compendium, a collection of carefully curated articles that will serve as an indispensable resource for clinicians and researchers.
“The Editorial Board’s vision is for each JNC Compendium to provide our field with a resource that merges the depth and rigor of a textbook with the forward-looking insights of an expertly crafted review article,” says JNC Editor-in-Chief Marcelo F. Di Carli, MD, MASNC. “It is fitting that the first JNC Compendium focuses on the development and clinical impact of F-18 flurpiridaz, which has significant promise to improve access to PET imaging and advance the evaluation of myocardial ischemia.”
Catalytic Role of F-18 Flurpiridaz in Nuclear Cardiology
JNC‘s first compendium seizes on the transformative moment underway now, as F-18 flurpiridaz is launched in the U.S. and imagers are eager for insights on how the new perfusion radiotracer could transform nuclear cardiology.
“The approval of F-18 flurpiridaz is more than just a regulatory milestone,” Dr. Di Carli says. “It is a catalyst for expanding the role of radionuclide perfusion imaging and opening new doors for better diagnosis, risk stratification, and management of coronary artery disease.”
The JNC Compendium features 6 articles that together examine the radiotracer’s development, clinical applications, and anticipated impacts as well as areas where research and innovation are needed.
The compendium is a must-read “for all imagers who are considering embracing cardiac PET now that flurpiridaz is available,” Dr. Di Carli emphasizes. “You want to read and learn as much as you can.”
The JNC Compendium on F-18 Flurpiridaz PET Myocardial Perfusion Imaging is an open-access publication. We hope you will share it with your colleagues.
Compendium at a Glance:
- The rise of quantitative PET: Redefining the evaluation of coronary artery disease
- F-18 Flurpiridaz PET MPI: Imaging characteristics and clinical trials
- F-18 Flurpiridaz PET MPI clinical results in specific patient populations
- F-18 Flurpiridaz PET MPI combined with treadmill exercise testing
- Quantitative approaches to F-18 Flurpiridaz PET image analysis
- Potential worldwide impact of F-18 Flurpiridaz PET MPI
Plus, New Podcast Highlighting Opportunities Available Following Launch of F-18 Tracer
Just as the JNC Compendium on F-18 flurpiridaz PET MPI is a must-read, the new JNC CardioConnect podcast is a must-listen. Whether you tune into the podcast to tee up the compendium or you read and then listen, this is an important conversation about new opportunities and challenges for nuclear cardiology and its practitioners.

JNC CardioConnect hosts a candid conversation about opportunities and priorities following the U.S. launch of F-18 flurpiridaz.
The podcast features Rob S.B. Beanlands, MD, MASNC, Panithaya Chareonthaitawee, MD, Marcelo F. Di Carli, MD, MASNC, and Krishna Patel, MD, MSc, FASNC, summarizing what is known, and not yet known, from the current literature about the benefits and limitations of F-18 flurpiridaz. With the stage set, they move on to reflecting on what comes next in real-world practice and research, outlining the data still needed, the learning curves that users will need to master, and the big questions that researchers should prioritize.
“Above all,” Dr. Chareonthaitawee says, “we need to recognize that we are at an inflection point in nuclear cardiology. With flurpiridaz, we have the opportunity to move PET MPI beyond academic centers and into the community. … SPECT will continue to play an essential role. This is not a PET vs. SPECT proposition. Rather, this is an opportunity to match the right test to the right patient.”
